Introduction

The Housing Modification Manual outlines the procedures and responsibilities for the assessment and purchase of housing modifications for disabled people living within the area covered by the Wellington, Hamilton and South Localities of the Ministry of Health.

Enable New Zealand, a service division of MidCentral District Health Board, has been contracted by the Ministry of Health to provide housing modifications for disabled people when the relevant Ministry of Health eligibility criteria is met and the correct process to obtain funding has been followed.

The goal of Enable New Zealand is to provide an efficient management of resources and to deliver an effective service to disabled people, enabling identified barriers to participation to be overcome, by meeting their essential needs for environmental supports to remain in their own home.

Enable New Zealand is committed to providing a service delivered in an equitable manner ensuring there are no barriers to access through cultural beliefs and practices (where 'cultural' denotes age, gender, ethnicity, disability or sexual orientation).

Additional information regarding a person's rights when accessing health and/or disability services can be found in the 'Code of Health and Disability Services Consumers' Rights'. Should there be any conflict between this document and the Code then the provisions of the Code shall prevail.
