Specs App enhancements to be released 02/10/2019

Enable New Zealand (ENZ) is pleased to announce a further enhancement to the Enable Specs App. Learn more about the changes we’ve made to improve your experience so that eligible children and young people can access the Spectacle Subsidy as quickly as possible.

What’s new?

  • Disability Type ‘None’ is reinstated.
  • A Customer Details screen (new) displays the remaining subsidy, anniversary date, and payments made in the last 12 months.
  • You can edit all customer details except for their date of birth and NHI number.
  • You can add a preferred name (optional).
  • You can add a postal address (optional).
  • You can attach a document to a G&E application.
  • If you create a new customer who has an existing record with ENZ, the records will be merged.
  • The subsidy approval email has a new look!

Read on for more details.

Disability Type ‘None’ reinstated

Following your feedback, ENZ consulted with the Ministry of Health and we have now reinstated the Disability Type option ‘None’. This is where the child is assessed for the Spectacle Subsidy but, on examination, spectacles are not required. A claim may be submitted for the cost of the examination.

If you have been holding back examination-only claims in the meantime, you can submit them from Wednesday 2 October.

Customer details screen added

When you select an existing customer record in the Search results screen a Customer Details screen now displays. You’ll see a summary of the customer’s personal details, subsidy availability and history. From this screen you can view or edit the customer details and request a subsidy.

Attachments can be added to G&E applications

From the G&EApply for Subsidy screen you can now add a document to support a request for funding under Genuine and Exceptional (G&E) circumstances.

Attached documents are listed on the PDF copy of your application.

Validation and merging of customer records

When you create a customer in the Specs App, Enable New Zealand is automatically notified that customer validation is required. This is a manual process that takes 1 to 2 working days.

Please note: The customer record will not display in the Specs App until their details have been validated. To avoid duplicate records being created, please do not try to create the record again.

  • If the customer has an existing record: We will either merge the two records (updating any details if required) or decline the new customer if ineligible.
  • If you have also requested a subsidy: We will review the subsidy at the same time, to ensure sufficient funds are available to progress your request.

In all cases you will be notified by email of the outcome of your request.
