Wheeled Mobility & Postural Management Level 2

The Wheeled Mobility and Postural Management Level 2 Credential recognises that therapists undertaking assessment for specialist wheeled mobility and seating, and postural management require specialist knowledge and training. This knowledge allows the therapist to provide appropriate advice and recommendations related to wheeled mobility, seating and postural management solutions.

All eligible professionals wanting to assess and prescribe wheelchairs and seating need to be a credentialed assessor in either Wheeled Mobility & Postural Management Level 1 or Level 2 (as applicable). The clinical indicators for Wheeled Mobility & Postural Management Level 2 and the required competency pathway are provided below.

How do I become a credentialed assessor for Wheeled Mobility & Postural Management Level 2?

You must be one of the following health professionals to apply for this category:

Eligible Health Professionals wishing to become a Credentialed Wheeled Mobility & Postural Management Level 2 EMS Assessor will need to successfully complete requirements as outlined in the Competency Framework via EMS Assessor Online before making a service request to Enable New Zealand.

To apply for this credential you will need to:

  • Already be a credentialed assessor in WMPML1
  • Attend a Ministry of Health Approved Wheeled Mobility and Postural management Level 2 training programme (workshops) and complete all post workshop worksheets and assessments
  • Complete an Enable New Zealand online application as a Provisional WMPML2 assessor (this requires support of your employer/supervisor)

  • Submit a completed Case Study that will be reviewed by the Credentialing Panel to critique your application of knowledge and practice
  • Successful application to credential as a Level 2 Wheeled Mobility & Postural Management assessor requires completion of the workshops and an endorsed/approved case study by the credentialing panel. You are expected to submit your case study within two years of commencing as a provisional WMPML2 assessor. Failure to do so will require attendance at the workshop(s)
  • Should an assessor be unable to meet this timeframe there may (under exceptional circumstances) be opportunity to extend this time frame. Any such requests need to be made to the credentialing panel outlining reason for the extension and experience/progress of working in the area of WMPML2. The credentialing panel will advise approval or decline of the request and their decision will be final
  • Wheeled Mobility & Postural Management Level 2 has an optional endorsement for Wheeled Mobility & Postural Management - Complex Custom Fabrication, refer to the Competency Framework for further information. If you want to apply for this optional endorsement you will need to do so as a separate application via EMS Assessor Online.
