NZ Disability Strategy 2016-2026

The New Zealand Disability Strategy 2016-2026 was launched by the Minister for Disability Issues Hon Nicky Wagner on 29 November 2016. The vision of this Strategy is: New Zealand is a non-disabling society – a place where disabled people have an equal opportunity to achieve their goals and aspirations, and all of New Zealand works together to make this happen.

The New Zealand Disability Strategy (the Strategy) was developed after extensive consultation with disabled people, their families/whānau and disability organisations. The Strategy will guide the work of government agencies – including Enable New Zealand – on disability issues from 2016 to 2026. It can also be used by any individual or organisation who wants to learn more about, and make the best decisions on, things that are important to disabled people.

A guide to community engagement with people with disabilities

The Ministry of Health have announced that the Guide to Community Engagement with People with Disabilities has been published on their website.

This guide was developed in collaboration with Disabled People's Organisations and provides practical tips to anyone wishing to engage with people with disabilities.

The purpose of the guide is to break down some of the barriers disabled people face, so that we can all benefit from their full participation in New Zealand society.
